E-scooters General Rules and Regulations in Australia

Western Australia:

eRideables are permitted for public use under specific regulations.

Riders must be at least 16 years old.

Helmets are required. 

Speed limits: 10km/h on footpaths and pedestrian crossings; 25km/h on bicycle paths, shared paths and local roads. 

Queensland:

 E-scooters are permitted under certain conditions.

Minimum age for riding is 12 (under supervision) or 16 years old.

Helmets are required.

Speed limits: 12km/h on footpaths, 25km/h on shared paths, and 25km/h on local roads. 

Australian Capital Territory (ACT):

e-scooters are legal to ride.

Helmets are required.

 Speed limits: 25 km/h on shared paths and bike paths; 15 km/h on footpaths.

Tasmania:

e-scooters are allowed.

Hire and ride e-scooters are permitted in certain areas.

Helmets are required.

Speed limits: 20km/h in local roads. 

New South Wales:

Trials of shared e-scooters are underway in certain areas. Private e-scooters are generally prohibited on roads, footpaths, or other public places. 

Victoria:

Trials are underway to determine the feasibility of e-scooter use.

Limited use of shared e-scooters in specific areas. Personal e-scooters are generally prohibited. 

South Australia:

Trials are underway to assess e-scooter use.

Shared e-scooters are permitted in some trials but only in specific areas. 

Northern Territory:

Shared e-scooter trials are taking place.

Private e-scooters are not permitted for use on public roads or pathways.
